Edward Stachura 1937-1979
Edward Stachura was a great Polish poet, writer and lyricist. Stachura was born in France to Polish parents, who after the war emigrated to Poland. He became a true cult figure of Polish counter-culture, influencing many poets and writers in the 1970’s. Tragically, he took his own life in 1979.
Jan Sawka, a close friend of Edward (also known as Sted) illustrated or “visually” interpreted many of his books. Here are selected drawings that were created as commentaries to Stachura’s essays compiled in the book entitled “Everything is Poetry” (Wszystko jest Poezja), 1972-75.
