Helmut Kajzar (1941-1982)

Helmut Kajzar was a writer, playwright and theatrical director active in Poland, Germany and Sweden and a member of the Avant-Garde of 1970’s Europe. Jan Sawka treated his friend’s book as his own experimental exercise, creating an animated sequence of color pictures presenting the essence of the sometimes weird and provocative plays of Kajzar. The book’s title is “Plays and Essays” (Sztuki I Eseje) and was published in Warsaw in 1976, shortly after the expulsion of Sawka from Poland. Ironically the publisher, MAW (The Young People’s Publishing Agency) issued it officially, but with a very limited run.
